Bleck, don't know what I did wrong, post not sent :(

Anyways, simply stating that the p-bass (MIM) took to these strings like a fish to water DAY ONE, the jazz did not. So I was surprised they are kickin' butt right now.

I recently bought a Fender Standard MiM Jazz bass. While at the store, I tried the American Standard, the Deluxe J-Bass, as well as the MiM Jazz bass. The Deluxe J-Bass with its active/passive capabilities was the most dramatic in tone differences. The American Standard was the warmest of the three in tone. The Standard MiM J-Bass was a very close second to the American Standard and in my opinion represented the sweet spot for tone and cost. Did that slight difference between the American and the MiM J-bass warrant the 5 fold increase in price of the American Standard? For me, the answer is NO it did not.

I like slap playing. I discovered to my surprise, that the J-Bass (American and MiM ) with their passive electronics have excellent slap tones. Because the MiM had a slightly brighter tone makes the slap technique sound a bit better than did the American Standard J-bass right out of the box without the aid of preamps. I am now experimenting with various string weights to see how I like the tone differences.

Sorry I took so long to respond, but I am totally convinced there is nothing wrong with either the build, the pups or the model of this jazz bass.

The only thing that is in question is my ability (or inability) to set this up correctly.

I'm having the "a string blues" with fretting, but I have the radius correct. Yeah yeah, take it to an expert, but there are none in my area

BTW, I really appreciate the responses. I get a little closer every time. It's a good bass, and has "that" jazz tone.
