They didn't make them at first, did they? I think it was Rotosound with John Entwistle with the Swing Bass 66's, or were there rounds before that? You have any recollection?

I thought it was Roto's.

It seems like the case.

With all the strings available, I like using the Nylons still from 1969. Better Nylons made since then.

You have a set that was made from back in 1969, or you just like the ones that came out originally back then?

No, the original ones I had from 1969/1970 unwound. Those ones were trash compared to the ones we play today. I think they were Gibson strings I had back then, but I really don't remember.

I imagine they've improved the technology and made improvements along the way. Speaking of Gibson, they don't even make bass strings anymore. They use to have them, but just ones for guitar. I don't know who they have for the strings for their basses, the few they have, being bass is the redheaded step child of the company. :P

I think Cleartone Strings makes the Gibson strings. At one time Gibson had a card in with the basses saying Cleartone Strings were strung on the bass.

You know, that sounds familiar. I think you might have mentioned this when you had a Gibson.

I may have, it goes back a bit.

I wonder why they decided on that brand in particular? It's certainly different that what you usually see (Ernie Ball or D'Addario.) I've never tried them, myself.

The gauges on the Gibson's I had were D'addario based sizes. That doesn't mean they were D'Addario strings though.

Yeah, certain gauges seem to be pretty common, or standard with each other. I've checked out the Cleartone site and it looks like they are partnered up with Washburn to have strings for them.
