just wondering...anyone know why fender chose to leave out the badass bridge on the 5 string marcus miller basses? i just retrofitted mine last night and, as usual with that bridge, good call. the bridges that come standard on these basses aren't even as beefy as the new american standards or even on the jazz bass 24 V. they left them on the 4 string MM bass so why change the 5? the badass bridges are even able to accept string through body which is another cool upgrade from the 4 string.

again, just wondering.

I can't find much info out there on this topic but there is an article u can read here:
http://www.marcusmiller.com/special_mm5.html
This is what they said about the bridge...
"Next step was the bridge; we started with a Badass and then tested different materials from brass, steel, aluminum, titanium and also different combinations of metals. We also had a bridge with an adjustable break angle which allowed us to test the string pressure in the bridge sections. In this case we found that size doesn't matter, because the bridge mass and material not only transfers the string movement to the body but also absorbs some of the energy. We found that the choice of two different metals provided the best sound for this instrument."

So from what I read, my guess is that it has to do with the metal used in the BadAss Bass V Bridge... or the string spacing maybe?

Ben,
Where did you find a BadAss 5 string bridge that is string thru? I've been looking for one and would like to know where you got it and how much. I've only seen the regular BadAss V, from Leo Quan, but these are not string thru and the mount holes don't line up perfectly to the MM V body.

I've looked at hipshot also, but nothing lines up perfectly without drilling new holes.

I've got a bass project right now (taking real slow though) I have a US made Marcus Miller 5 string ash body, a US Jazz bass deluxe 5 bolt neck plate which seems like it will fit w/o drilling new holes, American deluxe V string bridge (but want to use a heavier mass one like a Badass, but can't find a string thru one so far), SCN V pick ups (may switch to Bartolini's or Norstrands), the MM 4string pots/pre amp I assume are made in Japan as is the rest of the MM 4string basses. I need to find the pick guard, the battery cover and compartment, knobs, and of course the hardest part, a 5 string virgin neck and hipshot ultralite tuners.

Thus I'm real interested in where you got a 5string badass string thru bridge, or did you modify it?

Welcome to the Forums. Can't you get one from a Fender dealer in Indonesia. Di Jakarta banyak Fender dealer. Not sure where in Indonesia you're from. I'm from Cinere originally. If you can google, Fender Indonesia, there they have a few dealers in Indonesia you can contact. Special order usually take a long time there I know, cuz it takes awhile here too to order a specific bass from local dealer(s). You will not find any Fender bass that would have the MM characteristic other than it's a 5 string, since the elcetronics are different. Good luck.
