Hello.
Recently I acquired a 1995 Japanese Jazz Bass, great bass, with Dimarzio Collection pickups, those used for domestic market, the basses for export mounted another type. Has anyone been able to compare the two types?, substantial differences?, wich was better?, mor info about Dimarzio?.
bass pics, So far the best bass I've had, I hope you like it.
Thanks and sorry for my bad English.

Prior to July 31, 2015 Fender Japan BASSES were almost ALL made by Fujigen Gakki, later known as Fujigen Industries, in Matsumoto Japan. Only a handful were ever made elsewhere (at Dyna Gakki) and those are all artist series models like the Steve Harris and Geddy Lee. Fujigen made instruments for many brand name companies and still does, Fender was just one of them. Great woods, fine fit, competent finishing (USUALLY but then again not always) and craftsmanship in neck construction are the strong points on a Fujigen made Fender Japan bass. Hardware at Fujigen during the Fender Japan era was usually about on par with Fender Mexico products and was usually made by GOTOH in Japan under contract. The electronics Fujigen installed are the weak link in almost all their instruments and do not compare to Fender USA or even Fender Mexico. In fact Cort put better pickups in the Squier basses they made in Indonesia than Fujigen put in Fender Japan basses. I am no fan of Fender Japan bass pickups at all. I would have put Fender USA, Seymour Duncan, Curtis Novak or Lindy Fralin pickups in there.

Dimarzio makes a lot of pickups but I am unfamiliar with the COLLECTION model. "Collection" could be like the "Duncan Designed" pickups made in Asia used in some Squier basses that were based on Duncan USA pickups. The Duncan Designed pickups were still substandard to the USA Duncans but pretty good for Asia machine made cookie cutter pickups.

Dimarzio bass pickups have a lot of fans and are usually affordably priced. In spite of no experience with that Collection series of Dimarzio pickups I still do not see how that pickup set could not be an improvement over every other Fender Japan Jazz Bass pickup set I ever saw. The Dimarzio set would probably be improved upon with a set by Fender USA, Duncan, Novak, Fralin or other shop that does classic Fender tone well. There are oodles of good shops doing real vintage like Fender bass pickups.
