I recorded with my 2012 AmStd Jazz Bass--for the first time. I've played a Ric since 1978 and recorded with it often. You use what you're used to (and besides, it's bada**).

But I decided to try out the JB, and i loved it. I used it on a 60s/Herb Alpert-type ballad, and it gave me a subtle growl and smooth, round, bass tone. I'll be using it on rockier things in the future. The Ric is jealous.

This is a very rough copy of what I hope I'll be able to get back to.

Sounds pretty good there, Chicken House! Did you use a Fender Rumble too?

For unsolicited advice, have you thought of giving that tune a George Harrison treatment? Especially the lead.

LInnin, old pal!!!!

I thought of a multi layer slide lead but decided in the end to go with something a little more simple and modest.

Thanks for listening to it.

I went straight into my Zoom R8 recorder--I'll never use that machine again and now have a Macbook Pro to record on.

I am going to start mic-ing my amps, and I'll use that Rumble on the next song.

Good to see you're still around these hyar parts.

Hey, thanks Chicken House! Be sure to try the Rumble's XLR out straight into your mixing board. It's a bit of magic.

Here's a good example as done by EC

You know I'm a Beatles freak. You probably can't help but hear the influence...There are worse influences.

You just jarred my memory--I did use the Rumble's out. I had the instrument switch on the recorder, but I was using the Rumble. I like the out, but I want to try something with mics.

Linnin, yes, you can hear the Beatles in the Wilburys, but there are songs that lean towards Petty, and Orbison (sorry he wasn't around longer) and Dylan...I think the only one where songs were not designed was Lynn(e), but he was pretty much with George anyway. Great group of musicians. My small band gets together about once every couple/three months, just to play their stuff. We all bring our acoustics and I bring a baby rumble combo to keep up with my kingman, but we have a blast. Just acoustics, bbq, and perhaps a couple adult beverages. Sorry for going off subject, but the TW are a really fun group to cover and makes for great fellowship in our band.

I've always considered myself to be Arthritis Wilbury, the 20th Wilbury (like 5th Beatle).

I don't mind the thread being highjacked--The Wilburys are worth it.

BTW, The Wilbury Twist is the BEST instruction-dance record ever.
