I recently put new strings on my jazz, I used larger guages then usually to get a fuller,fatter sound. I got a set of Ernie Ball's 45,65,85,105's the problem that I'm having is the E string periodicaly comes out of the nut and the A string buzzes like crazy, unless I place my finger atop of it directly over where it passes thru the nut. It's not fret buzz, yet lts like its bouncing around in the nut grove. I dont know if I should just file the nut groves deeper or replace the nut with one that accepts larger diameter strings. If I do end up filing the nut groves deeper I may end up with more buzzing, as it will lower the overall string height down the whole neck. How difficult is it to change the nut?? and what one would suit my needs(brand,avail..etc)?? What should I do??? :? Thank you in advance

Jay. =)

Do you have the strings wound as low as they can go on the tuning posts? That could help the problem. As far as the new guages, they should be fine, stock gauges are usually in that range, I mean you did't drastically change gauges. If it is the nut, I would just put a new one in. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddl ... _nuts.html
I have never done it, but check out here for some info if you wanna do it yourself. http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Nuts,_saddles.html Or just take it to your local luthier/repair shop and they can do it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information Zod! :D

I will check the strings placment on the tuners first, makes sence, then if all else fails replace the nut.
