I am quite close to pulling the trigger on a Squier VM Fretless Jazz. I've never played fretless before, and it sure seems like a good way to get my feet wet without breaking the bank.

I'll be getting this thing anyway, but the only thing that I am curious about is whether a regular Fender pickguard will fit it. I'm just not partial to Jazz basses without them.

I don't know, but I suppose the best way to find out, if possible, is to see if you can line up a pickguard with the body. Of course, you'll have to drill or screw holes into it, since it doesn't come that way. I think most Jazz Basses are pretty universal in size, though. I would think it should fit, but I couldn't guarantee it.

I don't worry too much about putting in screw holes. I guess I just assumed that since it's not American made it would be metric or some such. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that my MIJ Geddy Lee wasn't standard sized (in relation to the pickguard)...hence all my wondering.

I do know one thing for sure though. If there is something of an unusual dimension that is impossible to find parts for, I will find it!

Just have luthier custom make and install a pickguard for you. This is the most expensive way to go.
