The rosewood fingerboard on my new American Standard Jazz appears dull and "waxy" looking.
I understand this is a buffed fingerboard.
Is this why it has a dull finish? (compared to other rosewood boards)
Thanks

I think these day nice rosewood trees are hard to find.

I read and earn that at Taylor Guitars. Or just with Google.

We have to check guitar / bass before buying :(

Nice rosewood is getting more difficult to acquire. The Chinese are buying up Madagascar rosewood. Indian and Brazilian rosewood has been picked over. Buyers are paying premium prices for high end instruments.

Mass produced instruments get what their price-point can afford.

I realize it's hard to explain but this fretboard has been treated in some way. I'm trying to determine if it came from the factory like this as my dealer is known to have sold used and B-Stock instruments as new at full price.
The sides/edges have the appearance I'd normally associate with rosewood but the playing surface is dull. I'm pretty sure this is what Fender means when they describe this model has having a "buffed fingerboard" but I would normally associate buffed with shiny not dull.

IMO natural Rosewood is dull, not shinny.

Any picture ?
