Kinda like how some Fender Bass Amps integrated features from SWR.

Yeah, that's another one that got shut down by them. Then there was Genz Benz, after they were bought out, but then Jeff Genzler just started up Genzler amplification, as a continuation of that, I suppose.

The USA Geddy Lee Jazz played great through Fender / Hartke today. I hate to say it, but it's a deeper more clear tone, the 15's over the 12's.

I imagine the aluminum aspect of that speaker also contributes to the clearness, or punch, as well.

I'd have to agree with the aluminum, and they also are using Kevlar in the mix as well. I don't know of how many other players have, or had tried this Super Bassman / HD115, but it's exceeding my expectations. Big Time! Image

Maybe you have found your ideal amp and speaker combination? Sometimes, there is a lot of trial and error to nail that down, that's for sure.

I believe I have put together an odd combination, that is out flippin' standing. Hartke really matched the 15" with its optimum cab design. A 500 watt 15" is a bit different than most. the Super Bassman has the 300 tube watts power to really push the air, and drive it. I think I have found it!

Sometimes, odd combinations work out for the best. Funny thing is Hartke started out just making cabs to begin with, before they started doing amplifiers, maybe for about 5 years, or so. Amps weren't their original thing. In fact, the Hartke cabs that I did play through in NYC were from that early time. They were the Guild/Hartke models, which I guess Guild had something to do with it. Maybe distribution?

That's an interesting fact about Hartke starting out manufacturing cabs. At one time back then, there were amps made by, or made for the bigger names in guitars, basses, etc.

Jaco was also one of the first Hartke endorsers.

It seems like one of the go to rigs in the 90s was a GK 800RB through Hartkes.

Back then was kinda my Metal/Shred years. The whole "Scooped" mids thing was all the rage.

I think since I studied production and learned about hearing response I really can't stand scooped miss now.

Right now I'm kinda scoping out the Markbass Ninja line.

GK 800RB through a Hartke 4 x 10" aluminum speaker cab, Spector bass strung with Dean Markley Blue Steel strings. That's pure 1989/1990 there, it seemed. :P I almost bought a Spector bass back then, but I wound up getting a Kawai Alembic copy bass, instead. That was one of those basses that goes on the list of I was stupid to sell.

Oddly enough, when I used those old Guild/Hartke cabs, it was a GK 800RB that was hooked up to them. It was the house rig of some club I played at in NYC, many moons ago. I've never had any chance to try out the Mark Bass stuff, though.

There was a famous Hartke ad back then with Stu Hamm (coincidentally a Markbass endorser with his own model now) at the China Club with his Hartke rig.

Marcus Miller is using Markbass now too his initial complaint with the models that they had out was that they were too midrange heavy. So his is more scooped.

I tried a used Ninja (the Richard Bona model) head through I think it was a Hartke cab and I liked the tone. Generally when I try out amps in a store I set all of the controls at 12:00 to see the coloration of minimum coloration. I liked the sound for my style. Granted I'm a Roundwound, Active Pickup, Soloed Bridge kind of guy so my tonal preferences might be different from yours.

I don't like the fact that Markbass has an exclusive contract with Bain Capital (Mitt Romney's company who owns Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, and Music 123) for distribution in the US. I can't dispute the fact that they sound good for my style though.

I remember Stu Hamm with Hartke, seeing the ads in "Guitar For The Practicing Musician" back in the day. He had some sort of 4 x 5" tweeter cab (I think that was the configuration,) on top of some other cabs, that they had just put out. I think they might have had a 2 x 15" cab there, too. I don't remember now. I've never even seen that tweeter cab, other than in the magazine ad. Who knows how long, or how many of those were even made, or sold?

You ever play on any of those Sire basses that Marcus Miller endorses?

I don't like to deal with Guitar Center, either. Although, sometimes you have to if they are the only option at the time if you need something that they have. I generally try to avoid them, though.
