It's basically (no pun intended :P) an Ampeg mini frig. :P

That sounds like a killer set up, then. 8) I really need to try the Squier Jazz through mine. Fender basses do play well with Ampeg, that's for sure.

I'm getting to think a lot of basses play well through Ampegs. I stayed away from Ampegs for a long time, until more recently. Better late than never. the Jazz sounds so natural it.

Do you like Joe Osbourne? He died a couple of weeks ago, and he was part of the Wrecking Crew. Played bass on a bunch of stuff, including Johnny Rivers (live and recordings,) and the Association's "Windy," which I've know you've posted on the thread about what you are listening to, just to name a minute few. Anyway, he was one of the first musicians to play a Fender Jazz, and he had one of those stacked knob models, strung with LaBella flats, from what I've read. They've often mixed him very strong in the mix, and that bass does sound amazing.

Listening to that really makes me want to get back into using a Jazz again. All I got is a Squier copy of a 60's Jazz, but I did mod it with a Bad $@! 2 bridge (I wrote it like that, because they always censor it on the board, anyway,) and I've had some light gauge Rotosounds on it for who knows how long. I just have a feeling I'll get a really decent sound out of it through the Ampeg.

I did like Joe Osbourne's sounds. The Association's Windy is one of my favorite songs that get's stuck into my head for weeks. The bass lines in Windy grabbed my attention when the son was first released. I bought the 45 record, and played over, and over again. I think however, the bass played in the recording of Windy, was a hollow body Gibson. Or at least from what I saw on an Association video.

A Jazz is as you know, my top dog. I like the Ric, but to me it's no Jazz. I like playing my Ric, but when I play the Jazz, it feels to me to be very smooth, and effortless. Just a really great feel to playing it. The Jazz sounds are fine too.

Joe's bassline on "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" is a true classic.

Yes, that it was. A great time for music back then.

It's a weird almost generational thing that I've tried playing in that Joe Osborn, James Jamerson, Chuck Rainey style with younger players and they don't know how to play with it. It's almost like they're too used to the modern "Pump 8ths", or double the guitar riff thing.

I have to say that he certainly got an excellent tone out of it, sans his playing skills. To me, that's one of my favorite bass tones, especially with 60's music.

That's strange that they couldn't just play a chord progression over that.

Like I said I think it's kind of a generational thing. It seems like over the last 40 years the tradition became the worst guitarist in the band becoming the bass player. The result is players got programmed into expecting the bassist to either double the guitar riff or pump eighth note roots.

Don't even get me started on Scooped Mids.

I do agree with it's being what you grew up with. I heard 60's music, ALL THE TIME. I heard it when I went to bed with a stack of albums stacked on the turntable, and a set of Koss Pro 4A headphones on, as I drifted off to sleep, almost overnight. And It never hurt that I felt like I was born to be in that time. The right time for me. I don't adapt well to the more currant music myself.

I'm going to try to get the Ric through the Ampeg setup Thursday.

I didn't move any gear, it's all in place. Image

I'm really selective about it. I've come through, Metal, Punk, Jazz, FUnk, Reggae, Jam Band, R&B pretty much anything with a cool bass line.

Lately some Hip Hop related music has caught my ears due to the fact that everything is up for grabs plus the Bass on it is almost louder than the vocals.

I did an even swap out for the SVT-212AV. It's my untouched head that they had since May.
