Yeah, I definitely don't have the extra funds to just buy a bunch of them at random times. I do have the Fender Rumble as a backup, at least.

Yep! you could be doing a lot worse than your Fender Rumble for sure.

I'm more than pleased the way the Jazz sounded through the Fender / Ampeg today. Every so often, I make the right move. Nahhhhh,.........

I'll bet it did. That got me thinking about dusting off the Squier Jazz and seeing how it sounds through the Ampeg. I think it has a short in the jack, though. I have to be careful about that, or figure that one out, if I can.

Shorts are the biggest pains going. Definitely try the Jazz through it though.

I did use it to record a song that's going on my girlfriend's next album, and I didn't have an issue with it, but I was also sitting in a chair and not moving too much. There's always a chance it could just need cleaning, if there is an issue. I did pick it up last night, but I didn't plug it in, since it was upstairs.

I also picked up the Peavey Zodiac bass, which is another one I've been thinking about putting into action. When I get some extra cash, I'm going to pick up a set of Dunlop light gauge flats and string it on the Peavey, and see how it does. When I put the Fender rounds on it and took of those Rotosound heavy gauge flats, it took care of that weird A string buzz that it had, but I'm wondering if the lighter gauge Dunlops will do OK on it? If so, then I'll seriously start playing on that bass.

The only other issue is it has a ground noise, unless you touch any metal on it, like the control plate. Maybe there is a way I can fix that, as well. It's a really beefy sounding bass with a P and J pickup configuration, and maple fretboard that plays pretty nicely. It's a heavy bass, but I think that's what also gives it it's tone, I think.

The biggest enemy to any electric bass, guitar is not having the control knobs moved. Amps too. Pitting, or dust can get in there. The more basses you have up to speed, the better is. A good cleaning sounds like a good idea for the ones sitting around.

As I was unplugging the 4003 today, I thought about your shorting out issue. Please double check the jack on the bass. It's pretty easy to do.

Get to the jack, and check for a crack in the contact that the tip of the cord jack touches. Then just look at the wires to the jack to see if the are soldered ok.

OK, if I ever get around to it, I'll do that. What about the ground hum from the Peavey bass? I know it stops when I touch any metal part of the bass, like the bridge, or control plate. Is there some sort of hack that I can do with that, or do I have to have it looked at?

That sounds like a ground issue. You're ground wire from the pots, may have a break in it, or just isn't screwed down tight enough.

The Jazz played through Ampeg setup today. I forgot I was playing through a 410. It has the sounds of an Ampeg refrigerator. Great!!! ROAD REX APPROVED!!! Image

Isn't the ground wire typically a green one? I've never got too much into taking these things apart and figuring out what does what, or goes where, unfortunately. I probably should have.
