Oh, so you traded in or sold your Jazz and Precision to get the Gibson?

Yeah, that's it. It's simpler for me with two, and both short scales. As much as I liked the Jazz, and the Precision, the SG style is like a ghost from the past I can't kick. Being honest about it.

You've had SG style basses going back into the 60's?

In early 1970 I managed to get up $349. for an EB0. New without a case.

That was a good chunk of change back then, too, wasn't it? What happened with that bass?

Some of the used cars I bought back then were just a bit higher than that new Gibson was.
That EB0 was sold to a close friend of mine. I did Roadie work for the band. That was the only band I worked with, that were friends, not just a job. He played a Coral bass when he first joined that band. It had a chunk out of the Rosewood fretboard. So I let him use the EB0 for a bit. He got the Kustom Amp, and the EB0 sounded so good through it, I sold the EB0 to him. Then he went to the ACOUSTIC 360/361. The EB0 blew people away going through that amp. He also recorded an album with the EB0.

That does sound like a formidable combination. Do you know if he still has it or not?

No, he sold his gear when he went in the Army. They drafted him too.

Who knows what became of it then? Wouldn’t it be something if you were somehow reunited with that bass? That’s happened with people before. I know that you’d probably would rather get back the bass that was stolen from you, though. That would be something.

The EKO I could only identify if it still had the signature on it's back. The EB0 I wouldn't know it, I never recorded serial numbers back then. The only thing I can say about it, I bought it in early 1970. It was either a 1969, or 1970 Gibson EB0.

Yeah, they probably made a bunch of those EB0's to begin with, too. I've seen several for sale here and there.

This EB0 was a solid head, and had the damper attached to the bridge.

Yeah, so you can get that muted thump to your sound. I remember when I got the '77 Jazz, it had the foam insert inside of the bridge cover.

It had a pull down lever to engage the mute.

I know what you're talking about. The Ovation Magnum bass from the 70's (maybe 60's?) had that on there, too.
