To say I like the USA GL Jazz, is an understatement. But I'm totally WOWED by the sound of it through the Bassman 500 / 115 Neo. It pounds, and crushes. The American Vintage ’70s Lee signature pickups are so suited to a 15" cab. It's great!!! Image

So, do you think you've found your ideal bass combo for now?

No doubt about it. The bass, and the amp matches up great for my playing anyway.

I'm stilled believing my USA GL Jazz is my all time Jazz over any of the other Jazzes I had, including the last USA GL Jazz I had. And like I said before, it plays great through the Bassman set. Such great bottom sound, clean with no mud.

So you think you'll actually hold on to this one?

Definitely. If I were to suggest a MIA Fender Jazz to anyone, the USA GL Jazz would be it. Road Rex Approved, by all means. My PJ Precision is up there as well. I have no plans of doing any gear replacement at all. But yeah,...... the USA GL Jazz for me is the best Fender Jazz.

Well, you can't get any more approved than that. 8)

For this old man, that's it. Lord knows It's taken almost a lifetime to have this setup. The only other head that was as close as the 500 I'm using now, was the Super Bassman. The 115 Neo cab is fine. I'm just primarily a Jazz player. That took a long time for me too.

Well, the only difference between the two Bassmans are the power section and the weight. The preamps are the same, so there's probably not a massive sonic distance between the two. You ever try out any other Jazzes, like the Deluxe Active Jazz they had a few years ago (I think they still make some sort of version of it,) or Modern Player Jazz (also from a few years ago.)

I had a couple of the Deluxe Jazz series, and didn't care for the Active function, and the overall heavier bass. I'm just a Passive bass player.
It's true about how similar the Super Bassman, and Bassman 500 are to each other. I'm very satisfied with the sound, and the reliability of this 500 over the past one I had. 65 Pounds, and messing with tubes isn't doing me any favors either. Old school here again, I like using the same brand head, and cab together, when it's feasible that is.

I have mixed feelings about active pickups. I definitely can see it's merits, since I've used basses that have them, but I also see it's negatives, which for me would be dealing with the batteries, and getting a more vintage tone out of them. Although, with the batteries, as long as you unplug your cable, they should last a long time, depending on how much you use it. Now a days, most active basses have a passive switch to them, as well. So I guess in that sense, you can have best of both worlds.
