I forgot how much I like the USA GL Jazz. I'll have to say, this is my overall favorite bass ever.

I have noticed that as long as I've known you, you've gravitated to it the most.

That's pretty much it. I do like playing other basses, but the USA GL Jazz is the one, that if I had one bass, that would be it. I can't find any fault with the PJ Precision either. The case showed up for the PJ today. I feel better having it in a case. These two basses are about it.

That's right, you don't use guitar stands, do you? That's a pretty proficient combo, with those two basses, I'd say.

I have a couple of stands, but I just use them for temporary use when the basses are out of their cases. That way the basses are safe from the dogs getting into them, And keeps them a bit lower on dust collection. It also cuts down on the floor space, the stands would take up in the small room I use.
I'm thinking the same about the two basses myself. The Pups on the GL, are special voiced 70's. Very dominant in sound. The PJ's pups are based on 70's pups as well, just not as dominant as the GL's pups.

Did you already tried the crimson flametop version with black binding/blocks? They discontinued this bass for a while because it was a limited edition with only 100 pieces made.

It's great! Everything I expected it should be. The specially voiced 70's pups on the GL, do stand out nicely. They have a bit more power to them, than the CS 60's on the Am. Std. Jazzes do.
I do like having the PJ along to get the Precision plus tone. There is something to the PJ setup, with having the Jazz pup to fill in any little gaps a Precision pup may have.

Yeah, the P and J pick up configuration is a really nice set up, I think. You do get that P Bass sound, but there's an add "oomph" to it with the J pick up by the bridge. You can always dial back the J pick up to get strictly the P pick up, but I usually just leave everything wide open.

Would you say the pick ups have a more mid range boost to them with the 70's than the 60's style pick ups?

No, I've never seen one in person, but I've seen the photo's of a couple. It's a nice looking bass.

Yeah,...... pretty much. The Amp is being a good control on the sounds too. The Rumble has a decent low to it. I use the Vintage settings on it.

You ever use the distortion channel on it? I didn't really use mine before, but I have to admit it sounds pretty cool with the Precision Bass. I might start using that some more.

No,....... I never did. I found I liked the Vintage setting. Somewhat how I had the Super Bassman head set. The sounds are pretty close. Not too bad for $1,200. dollars less. 8)

I'd say so. Solid state Fenders sound just as good as their tube counterparts, I think. One of my favorite guitar amps was a solid state Fender Princeton Chorus combo from the late 80's/early 90's, which I think was probably their version of a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. At least, it had similar features. I don't know, maybe because I'm mainly a bassist, I've never been too hung up on the whole tube thing, where that's all I'd want to use.
