Wow, the Hofner has a wide neck on it like a P-Bass? I never would have thought that, if that's what you mean.

At least the width of the nut down. As far as how thick it is, I'm not sure. A Jazz is a better fit on me anyway. The USA Geddy Lee Jazz's thick neck feels better.

I just know the neck is pretty narrow on the violin bass I have. It certainly doesn't feel like a P Bass neck.

That's what I'd pretty much expect too, but Hofners are a bit on their own. I wish I could remember what the EKO, the original Electric Lady's neck was like.

I've never seen one of those in person, just online. Come to think about it, I've never seen a Hofner in person, either.

It's ironic to me, that a Hofner being as light weight as they are have such a wide neck / fretboard. The 500/1 I had was very balanced too. It was 4.13 lbs. But just not comfortable enough for my playing style.

I know that bass has a zero fret on it. You ever noticed to where that actually does anything? I've always wondered about that, since I don't recall ever playing an instrument that had one. I guess it has to do with the open string, I don't know.

I never paid any attention to it.

It probably doesn't do much of anything, then. At least to where you'd notice it significantly.

At least for me it didn't seem to be that significant. I never paid it any attention either.

I forget the application it supposedly is used for.

Well, I found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_fret

I can see the open string sound, as a fretted note makes sense.

Yeah, maybe also being a short scale might have some bearing on that, too.

That's a good point Paul. It actually adds one more fret to the board.
