I'm pretty set with a four string, knowing my way around neck, etc.

I know what you mean. I may or may not take up the challenge of learning a 5-string. There's also the alternative of stringing it up EADGC, with having a high C string instead of a low B, which could have it's own merits (playing chordal type things, etc. Speaking of that, I was reading something about the Yardbird's bassist, Paul Samwell-Smith, who played a lot of chord type stuff on his Epiphone Rivoli bass. He used black nylon strings (I'm pretty sure they were Rotosound, considering the place and time period,) because they wouldn't tear up his fingers doing that and slides, plus having the short scale helped. That made me think about those type of strings some more. I'm worried about the thickness of the string gauge, though. You think they'd be OK on the hollow-body? I'm worried about warping the neck or worse, if I use them on there. I could try them on my regular basses, maybe even the Schecter to see how they do.

I never had a problem with D'Addario ETB92 Nylons on the Fenders, G&Ls, Rics, Gibsons, MM, or Epi. Long, medium, or short scales. Your hollow body I would think wild be fine. You'd have to see the type of string pegs yours has. If it's like the Hofner, La Bella Beatle Bass Nylons without a doubt. I'm biased as hell on the D'addario Nylons, but they work, and if others, I won't mention any names, from mainly TB don't like them, their problem not mine.

The tuners look like your standard tuners, unlike the guitar-sized ones on the Hofner basses, so I don't have to worry about that, I think. I know I have to get medium scale instead of short scale, because of the way the bridge is, but that shouldn't be too much of a hassle. I know D'Addario and Rotosound both have sets for medium scale strings, including the nylons. Of course, so does La Bella, which are usually more expensive than even Rotosound.

The one thing I've noticed between the D'Addario and Rotosound nylons is that D'Addario has a thinner gauge with theirs (50-105) and Rotosound is heavier (65-115.) I'm guessing D'Addario is using thinner gauge strings underneath the nylon wrapping, or is the wrapping not as thick? I remember talking with Rotosound about their nylons and they said the strings under it were standard gauge (45-105.) Another thing interesting is when I typed in looking for the Rotosound nylons in Medium scale, I found you on the Gibson forum in a post from 2011. You were talking to some guy that had a Hofner and some other guy named Fred that was banned. You were using the Marshall at the time after having a Hartke and also saying something about Ampeg. You had a G&L bass, too. http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topi ... using-now/ Talk about a small world, when you can find 6 year old posts from people you talk to on other forums while looking for random things and you didn't even know them back then. Either that, or it's a result of Google tracking everything you do on here and who you communicate with. :P Hell, you can find me around, too. I've found posts of myself on forums I've forgotten I was a part of back in 2004, or something like that. Harmony Central is a prime example. I came across that maybe a year ago or so and I totally forgot I was even there. I still have the account there, as far as I know, unless that whole thing doesn't exist anymore.

Oh yeah, I saw that post about the nylons. Black plague was a bit much. They're just friggin' strings, not a disease, and round wounds are a bad idea on a fretless, no matter whatever Jaco did. I know, because I had a fretless and used rounds on it, because I didn't know better. :P

That is ironic about the Gibson post. I met Jaco through my cousin when we all lived in Fort Lauderdale. Doing the the music scene at that time. I wasn't to impressed, and I guess he, and I were going in different ways. Ancient history, that mount up to a hill of beans anyway. His sig. bass is the one I'm least impressed with also.

To be honest, I never got into him, or seriously sat down and listened to any of that stuff. Not to say it was bad, or anything against his talent, I just was into different things, I guess. I don't know, maybe I should, I might be missing out on something. Yeah, I've never had any urge to look into that signature bass, either. Probably because it costs almost $3000 and made to look like someone dragged it down I-95. :P

I didn't care for his personality either. To me, he was just another local bass player. I knew his lead player, from his first local band pretty well. A decent guy.

Tragic what happened to him, but I guess he had issues or something. He had the same exact birthday as mine, but he was 20 years older than me (December 1st, 1951 instead of 1971.)

He was 28 days younger than my cousin. They both going to the same high school, that's how they knew each other.I'm a Feb. kid, 1952.

Well, I hope I make it another 20 years, myself. That's why I've been trying to take care of stuff. I suppose I'm not doing too bad. I walk at least 3 miles a day, walked 4 miles yesterday, going up steep hills. 6 months ago, I couldn't walk a 1/2 a mile without my back locking up on me. Having dropped 64 pounds in the process certainly helped, too.
