Yeah, especially if it was a mistake. That's something that could be worth something down the road, perhaps. I'd definitely hold onto it.

Thanks gentlemen for all the input - Fender confirmed that it is indeed a factory mess up, the bass was built while the special run of crimson red ones were being made and someone has put a neck for a crimson red bass onto a black body.

I just got off the phone to the store and it'll be with me tomorrow! :D

It's always fun to finally get that big box, though. 8)

It's cool, about getting the Black Blocks, but I like the White Pearloid Blocks on the USA Geddy Lee.

I'm playing solo with my USA Geddy Lee Jazz. I said it before, if I had to choose between the GL, and most other basses, I'd keep the GL Jazz.

Can anyone tell me the specs on the neck contour for the Geddy Lee J-bass? I'd like to know the size of it as i'm looking to get a newer neck for mine and need something thicker. I'm looking at getting something around .900-.970", and i'd like to know the contour of the current neck for comparison. Thanks.

EDIT: I should note, my bass isn't the USA Geddy Lee, its a 2004 model. Pretty sure its the same neck and same scale length, though.

Nope - The neck profiles on the recent USA models are very different to the MIJ / MIM models. The USA neck is a lot thicker, as it's modelled after the Custom Shop replacement neck Geddy has on his No.1 Bass.

I was playing through the GK/Ampeg today for about an hour. What a great playing time I had with it.

I'm not playing solo with the GL Jazz, I have the 4003 RBY now. But the GL Jazz is still the one that's a keeper of any basses for me. Fender really did a great job of Creating the USA Geddy Lee Jazz.
