Hello,

I’m tempted to buy a used but nearly new Jazz Bass US 1993 (serial N310 xxxx) . It's the intermediate model with 22 frets, passive and a slightly longer horn.

Image

1) what are the advices about these models ?

2) are the parts standard (same than the other Jazz Bass) meaning if I want to change the pickups or any other cosmetic part will I be able to fit a « normal » jazz bass part ?

Thanks in advance (and sorry for my creative English )

Luc

Hi Luc,

For your first question, its all about bang for your buck. How much do they want for it?

If you get it what do you intend to replace and why? Pickups, pick guard etc. are easy changes.

Hello,

Price : 800 euros (it's the classical price in France for a used Jazz or Precision MIA in good shape)

For the rest what I would like to know is :

1) are these "longhorn" series of instruments considered as good (meaning equal to classic Jazz) ? Appart of this "longhorn" and two supplemental frets is it like a usual MIA Jazz ?
Ok i can, try it at the seller home, but for my experience the is a difference between playing a few minutes in an appartement on a amplification system you don't know, and been in real life with your own sound environment. Most problems are easy to miss when you are out of your reference installation (at least for me)

2) for the changing pieces part it's a little bit more complex.
I don't intend to change anything right now. But I had expereicne before with instruments that are non-standard and in case.. things can get difficult. For example I have a hollowbody Ibanez AFB200, beautiful and delightful to use little bass.
After a few little gigs I realized that the pickups lack definition. They are very rich in low end , the hollowbody construction gives what sounds like a little reverb that makes a very particular and pleasant sound for jazz, but the pickups are not articulate enough for my taste.
In normal situation it's not a huge issue they are billions of pickups available.. but... but the Ibanez bass humbuckers are in a non-standard size and they are no pickups fitting exactly this bass.

Longhorn series seem (I'm not sure of that it was part of my question) to have a non standard pick guard, that would be normal as the neck is not the same because of the two frets in excess. This neck is likely not the same again because of this two more frets.
Si for example if the neck as a problem and need to be replaced, is it possible to easily find a longhorn neck ? and so on....
