Unless it's a Peavey, probably. Those things were built like tanks, and weighed about as much as one, too. :P

True, some amps were over built.

Which I suppose, isn't a bad thing. A lot of them are still around and kicking, too.

I don't think Marshall knew any other way to build an amp. Big, and heavy.

Same as the Hiwatts, and whatever else that might still be lurking about.

Even the SS Acoustic 360 head had some heft to it.

I imagine so, especially since that cab was where the power amp section was built into. Do you think that was a smart design, instead of the power amp section being with the preamp section in the head unit?

From what I think I remember, it had a bit of weight to it, and was good size. The head just didn't have the room for it. It must have been an after thought in design added to the setup.

I suppose you could hook up several of those powered cabs to one of those preamp heads, could you? In that way, you could plug into one of those heads, and not worry about any ohm issues with that, with extra cabs to a powered head.

Probably so. Those were some powerful preamps for the time.

That was probably top of the line, other than an SVT, wouldn't you say, for the time?

Damn close, if not Paul. Loud as all get out!!! There were still large venues at that time who's PA's were still vocal only.

Yeah, you needed them to do all of the work, and they did. Of course, that's when you had the whole concept of running multiple amps, and slave amps for extra power going on and getting started.

There were times if you saw three full stacks, two were hooked up, and the third was a back up in cab one of the two primary stacks had a problem. A fast change out as the band played.

That's true, even for today, with at least one amp you might see on stage as a back up. I've seen a lot of bands that have that. I suppose I would to, if I could. It's a smart idea, really.
