Does anyone know if i can swap out the stock 10" and put in a 12"?? would i need to get a new cabinet to put in a 12" speaker and take out the chassis and put it in the new cabinet? I think ive seen some other SCXD owner do this, but i dont know where i saw it.

why dont you buy a 1X12 cab with the required ohms or well, i dont know if you can connect a 2x12 cab. you might, any experts out there?

I want the portability of carrying a combo all in one amp and dont want to have to lug around a cab.

You would need to cut a new baffle. Even then you may not have enough clearance for a 12.

From what I've read on this site and several others, there is not enough room to mount a 12-inch speaker in the cab.

If you want some more volume, putting an Eminence Rajin Cajun 10" Speaker in the SCXD maybe enough for you.

I've also read about folks putting an SXCD into a 12" Combo Amp Cab from Newell - http://www.newellamps.com/ - that would require you to buy the cabinet and a new speaker :P

I'm just using mine as I got it - I love it so far.

Perhaps this is off topic, but why, exactly, are you wanting to put a 12" speaker in your amplifier?

My main amp is a small tube combo with a 10" speaker (a Pro Junior) and, although many people have had good luck with building bigger cabinets or even converting them to a stand-alone head, I wouldn't do it. I bought the amp because I like it. If I need more volume, I can always run it through an extension cabinet, but with microphones and modern PA systems, it's rarely necessary. I would also tend to think that amps are designed around a certain speaker. I can't see my amp sounding any better than it does not with a bigger or different speaker. It would certainly be different, but not necessarily better.

Tung Sol
http://thetubestore.com/tungsol.html

or

JJ Electronic
http://thetubestore.com/tesla.html

Both get good marks - YMMV - everyone has an opinion about tubes :P

It's like strings, or Strat models, or Tele models

I haven't changed mine yet and I haven't bought any spares yet. From what I've read - some claim it doesn't matter which 12AX7 to use, and many folks seem to really like the JJ 6V6s.

I'm sure some others will jump right in and offer some more options.

I have an external cab with an eminence Red White and Blues, that I use with my Super Champ XD.
I've noticed a fuller, less boxy sound, and a definite increase in apparent volume when using this cabinet instead of the stock speaker.
Because the amp is relatively small, I don't find carrying the amps and an extra speaker cab much more difficult than hauling around a larger combo amp.
Using an external cab gives you the flexibility of having a small, portable amp for smaller things, while also having the ability to beef up your sound when needed. I'd highly recommend this over cutting up your existing amp.
