Ok, so I've been catching wind of a limited-edition reissue Fender Strat with a through-body neck. Being a fan of longer sustain, I tried to do some research (because the strat has always been my favorite, but a through-body neck on one of those puppies would just be SICK), but I haven't been able to find anything about it.

Anybody know anything about which strat this might be, if it exists at all?

Welcome to the Forum.

I have not heard of such a thing. But then again I'm old and my hearing is going too.

Eh. what did you say?

Maybe the Custom Shop has made/will make a thru-neck Strat.

A guy could make one for himself ... Carvin sells thru-necks. Just splice some body wings to it, etc, etc, and bingo!

Thanks for the input. Perhaps the best idea is just to go custom in this case, or build it myself. I will continue to explore my options, though.

You may have to go the self-build route that Orvilleowner was talking about. Another Forum member, Shreddin, recently tried to put in an order to the Custom Shop for a Strat with very particular - though not outlandish - specs. He found that not only was he quoted an enormous price, the CS wouldn't do everything he required. (Check out that thread under Shreddin's name...)

The Custom Shop steps beyond what's available in the regular catalog - but nevertheless keeps within the Fender mould. If it doesn't qualify as their idea of a Strat, Tele, etc they seem uninterested in doing it.

Don't know which side of that line a throughneck Strat would come, but since like the others I don't remember seeing one I fear it might be outside their remit.

Still, over on the Custom Shop Forum you will find folks who have a better idea of what the CS will and won't do. Or just ask the CS themselves...

Cheers - C

I'm pretty sure there is one, well maybe just a set neck. I could have sworn that there is a pic of one on this site, you know the pics on the sides of the screen that usually have a girl wearing Fender shirts, and the various pics of guitars.

Oh, great, now I'm going to have to "click" around and around until I can see the picture that you're mentioning!

I'm wondering whether I've seen a neck-thru Fender bass ....

Somewhere in my memory of Custom Shop archives photos, one of the luthiers did a project guitar which appeared to be a neck through strat with H configuration.

I don't see the set-necks any longer...were they ever neck through.

In the town i used to go to college there was/still is a musician who has a thru neck strat. its a clear finish so you can see the neck goes right through the guitar. its absolutely beautiful. i never got chatting to him about it but often wondered where he got it from. they certainly exist, although i can find no record of them online.
EDIT:

here is a youtube link to him playing the guitar. go to about 1.45 - 1:50 mins into the clip and you get a view of the guitar from the front and you can see the neck goes right through:

There is/was the Ritchie Blackmore Signature Strat from the Fender Custom Shop - a little searching and here it is:

http://www.fendercustomshop.com.au/customartistseries/0102400.php

and some more info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ritchie_Blackmore_Stratocaster

Of course this is a now discontinued model, but hey, they did make some.

PS Edited to add another reference to the guitar - from a current "Fender" page -

http://www.fenderplayersclub.com/pdfs/gear/blackmore_gear.pdf - a small PDF about Ritchie Blackmore's gear.
