Hi,
I 've got a 1963 precision bass but the knobs are not original and I would like to replace them with original ones or 'historical correct" '63 replacement precision knobs.
Can anyone tell me what the original ones look like, or even better, show me a picture of an original '63 P-bass knob? The knobs on my '68 precision are "flat top barrel" knobs but I thought the '63 ones where a little different. Can anyone help me with this?

Thx,
Dirk

P-bass knobs and Tele knobs are indeed the same but there are minor differences during time.
You have the dome knobs, the barrel knobs, the flat top knobs but I mean to remember that the knobs had a little rounding or somekind of board in the very early sixties.......

1963 P, original knobs. I am on the road but will send a better pick when I get home, if still needed.

I think the actual part number might have been 0013359000. I can't find any anywhere right now and they may be discontinued or the number changed. The closest thing to them visually is part number 0991366000 and Darren Riley has those at this time. It also could be that since part number 0013359000 is for ONLY the knob and not the set screw which has a different part number that when buying the same knob and set screw together that the combo is sold as part number 0991366000. I'm pretty sure those flat top knobs are the right look, but the actual knurling on the knob varied during the pre-CBS & CBS eras even though they looked the same they felt different with the later versions feeling rougher and easier to grip!

Ahhhhhhh! The amazing one-of-a-kind 1963 Precision with the magic paint job!

Rumor has it that these very knobs were hand cast by Fenton Farjnsworth himself out of depleated Uranium and heavily plated with Platinum. The bass is said to vibrate in F# whenever it is flown over Cuba In a U2 spycraft.

Fenton Farjsnworth is the most interesting man in the World. AND the bass players on this site are the most helpfull in the World. I don't know what it all means but it must be something. I'm so darn mystified by it all. :?:

Here are three pics. I tried to get the set screw, but no luck. Let me know if you need another angle.

Thx,
It looks like the original '63 knob is a mix of the barrel and the dome knob, the edge seems more rounded than the barrel knob but the top seems flatter than the dome knob.

I have the same kind of knobs on my 1966 Precision Bass. Slightly rounded at the top.
