I am actually talking about a mini strat so there is only 1 tone control and 3 single coil pickups. I needed the short scale so got this and rewired it with new parts and pickups. My wiring is identical to the Seymour Duncan diagram for this setup. The inner body comes painted with grounding/shielding paint. Everything checks out as far as continuity. Everything is grounded and the right wires pass through to the jack with proper continuity. I have tried two volume pots. I have gone over and over and made changes to be sure I have it right, but when I turn the volume all the way down, there is still volume of about level 3. I am pulling out what hair I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Is the unused lug on the volume control grounded to the pot body? Photos would be helpful.

The common cause of that problem is not having the third terminal of the volume pot grounded (the end terminal that doesn't have any wires connected to it). When you bent the terminal over to touch the pot case and soldered it, are you sure you got a good connection?

That's odd -- when I hit "submit" this site usually shows me if there are new posts and then has me resubmit after reading the posts. But I swear Bluesky636's post wasn't there when I started typing my reply (I took a few minutes to check the Duncan wiring diagram to see if they clearly showed the grounded third lug -- it's a little ambiguous).

I checked the same SD diagram. No ambiguity. I just beat you by 9 seconds.

There is continuity between the unused lug and the body cavity ground or other grounded spots. I'll try to get a good picture up. No matter how much I think not, I am sure I have something screwed up. In case it is the volume pot being heated too much, I do have another new one available.

This may sound dumb, but, "Bent the post over and soldered it to the pot"? I didn't do that but as I said, there is continuity there so that terminal and the body of the volume pot are grounded.

OK, so I see it and didn't do it. Brilliant! I am going to solder that and see what happens. Fingers are crossed.

Most thanks. I saw continuity and saw all wires connected properly and never saw that bent lug. Thank you so very much.

I've made the same mistake. Easy to overlook.
