I've got a 1984 - 1987 Fender Stratocaster made in Japan that I need to unload... I got laid off and I really need some cash, but I have no idea what the thing is worth and I don't really wanna take it to a pawn shop or somethin like that and ask them since they're likely to tell me its worth about $5. It's got scratches here and there and I can't find the handle for the whammy bar. Any ideas? Ballpark figure... I know prices vary from location to location... I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow that one is a nice one right there,I wish I had the extra cash,

To me that looks high end,I heard Japenese Fenders are pretty good quality!

never seen a nut like that?

If no tuning issues, good sounding pups, good fret board,no hickups

I am sure You could get around $600 or $700 possibly more!
to me thats what I would sell it for!

If You find someone who really wants it they will pay twice as much!

I think I paid around $500 about 12 years ago for it from a pawn shop type place that dealt in used instruments a lot... I put it up for $350 on craigslist a couple hrs ago and I got someone that wanted it almost immediately so I deleted the post. It has to be worth more than $350 if someone replies that quickly haha

It's got the Fender logo on it so I guess it is a Fender bridge. I haven't changed anything on it since I got it, but I've never seen a bridge like that before, mind you I'm no guitar expert and I haven't seen too too many guitars. The little knobs at the bottom are for fine tuning.

Yeah I use to have a japenese guitar but is was a westone genesis ll and the bridge was similar with the tuning knobs, very cool guitar, even though mine was a blue burst this one reminds me of it in a small way?
Seems like this one would be a special model considering its not like a usual strat?

I think the Kaler trem system might be a mod, or a special order?,
as i think they only came with the Fender system 1 on them.
that could cause a loss in value if it's true. I'm not 100% sure, maybe someone here can confirm the trem systems.

No that is a Fender System III trem; that lever-style locking nut was factory as well. Those were the "top of the line" of the Fender Contemporary models from 1985-1986. Here's a link to the trem page from that "Fender Strats Made In Japan site:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.blackman4/trem.htm

And a link to the Contemporary series specs page from that site:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.blackman4/cont.htm

It appears you have the 2 humbucker model #27-5800. They don't have a photo of one of them but they do have a photo of the HSS version (model #27-5700):

As for what they are worth - the market is all over on these. But this was the top of the line model back then.

Hey, all...

New to the Forum here...

I have an '86 MIJ Strat that I bought new from AL&M in Norfolk, VA. for about $350 or so.
Maple neck, Fender locking tremolo.

From what I understand, Fender did not have any US operations from '84-'87, their entire operation was in Japan. So, logically speaking, there shouldn't be any "American" Strats during that period...
