Hi -

I have a MIM strat with Vintage Noiseless Pickups.

Is there a way to add the active mid-boost (25 db) and TBX™ circuits to this guitar so that I can get the same sound as the current Eric Clapton models strat?

Yes. You may have to route a spot for the PC board under your pickguard and maybe a route in your tremolo cavity for the battery.

The soldering of it is a fairly easy job, just need to get a schematic of the Clapton wiring.

As to whether or not it will sound like a EC Strat, not sure, but I think it would be close.

There's a kit you can order from Fender. It's been done by others on the Forum without altering the body rout. Some have placed the battery in the trem rout by removing one of the springs, and the board under the pickguard. Your jack is going to be different because it powers up the unit when the plug is inserted. You really don't need a TBX. Clapton's stage guitars don't have them and the CS Masterbuilt Claptons are not fitted with them either. In fact, you might prefer the tonal quality of your guitar fitted out that way.

Do a search on "Clapton Midboost" and you'll find lots of info on the various installs folks have done.

Fender's part number is "Fender Stratocaster Mid Boost Kit - 0057577000"

If you follow the instructions as per the 'Are You Experienced' site, you may have difficulty housing both the battery and the circuit board in the guitars control housing. I did, so I moved the battery to the trem cavity and just jammed it in between two of the trem springs.

All told I found it to be very noisy installing that way. I tried everything. Wrapped the thing in plastic and padded it out to stop it being able to rattle around. Eventually I routed the guitars body so the circuit board sat just below the neck and middle pickups. To the right of the selector switch as you look at the face of a right handed guitar. That was quieter than any of my previous attempts at quietening.
Eventually I wanted my trem as well on that guitar. I ended up buying a Mexican Powerhouse body from ebay. That has been perfect, I'm totally happy with it.

For what it's worth, I took the guts of a Powerhouse and moved it to a USA Deluxe body. SInce I have the TBX tone there was no way to fit the circuit board in the control cavity so I had to extend the wires and move the circuit board to the tremelo cavity after removing the claw and springs. (I was planing on blocking the tremelo anyway).

The circuit board fits perfectly and the battery is next to it in the trem cavity and only sticks out 1 mm. The trem cover fits over it without much of a bulge.

I put in a set of Noiseless Deluxes so it's about as close to a signature Clapton as I can get (w/o the claw and springs) and I really love the sound I get, plus the controls make so much more sense with 1 volume, 1 tone and 1 overdrive control.

It's crossed my mind to consider buying up Powerhouses, clipping the resistors and putting in the Noiseless VIntage p'ups and trying to get $600- $700 for 'em on eBay, but buyers don't seem to go for partcasters much. . .

That install JPMist, is exceptionally well thought out.
I'm impressed.
