This is my LPB E-series Strat. its an E7XXXXXX. I was told, and always figured it was a 1987.

fhopkins, yours is an E9 and a 1985. Im confused now.

You really can't identify the exact year the E series was made by the serial numbers like you can today. See the info below that I've seen on several sites. I also bought the guitar myself(first owner) in 85. As you can see the E series were made in Japan during the years 1984-1987 so mine can't be an 89 as the serial number would suggest. Fender was doing some strange things while the US plant was down for renovations. Hope this helps you.
Japanese Serial Numbers on Peghead Decal
Note the lack of S, E, N series. These are reserved for U.S. made Fenders in their corresponding decade. BUT note that the "E" and "N" series does sometimes appear on "made in Japan" models. I believe this was a mistake on Fender's part using the same prefix for both U.S. and Jap-made guitars. In any case, if it says "made in Japan", then it is...
JV + 5 Digits = 1982 to 1984
SQ + 5 Digits = 1983 to 1984
E + 6 Digits = 1984 to 1987
A + 6 Digits = 1985 to 1986
B + 6 Digits = 1985 to 1986
C + 6 Digits = 1985 to 1986
F + 6 Digits = 1986 to 1987
G + 6 Digits = 1987 to 1988
H + 6 Digits = 1988 to 1989
I + 6 Digits = 1989 to 1990
J + 6 Digits = 1989 to 1990
K + 6 Digits = 1990 to 1991
L + 6 Digits = 1991 to 1992
M + 6 Digits = 1992 to 1993
N + 6 Digits = 1993 to 1994
O + 6 Digits = 1994 to 1995
P + 6 Digits = 1995 to 1996

Awesome, thanks for explaining that.

Great guitars, these E-Series Fenders. Are they all made in the Fuji Gen Gakki factory?

Here's my two MIJ Strats, one is an "M" Series '62 Reissue from 1992 and the other is an "E" Series from 1987, owned since Brand New the White one was my first Fender Strat, I now have it set up just for playing Slide with a high action and heavy strings and Kinman pickups (the other is loaded with Texas Specials).

I hope it's OK to post the "M" series in here.
Both of them are great sounding and playing guitars. 8)

i've seen them as low as $350 on ebay, and high as $1500.
there is a Japan only Fender site that sells rare MIJ's, but very high dollar.

I think that if anything was consistant with the MIJ Fender Stratocasters was the inconsistancy of what components and configurations they employed. I did an exhaustive search to find a method to the madness of how they did these back then and I couldn't find anything concrete. They did ship parts over to ease the pressure of demand but there are so many styles and then versions of those styles, I couldn't keep up. I think I read on this forum or maybe another that somebody asked if there was an expert on MIJ Fender Strats, if there is, I couldn't find him, doesn't mean they don't exist, just that they are too elusive perhaps for me to locate. This guy thinks he is, http://www.guitarsjapan.com/fenderchart.html, but if you read this page he will tell you that "You will not find the MADE IN JAPAN stamp on the headstocks of Fender MIJ guitars", well, then there must be a vast conspiracy out there decieving the American public because I have seen a bunch and I believe them to be genuine. If mine is a fake, then I have a fake guitar. Some of the parts used on mine should be half the price I paid, I mean a Schaller, Made in Germany, licensed Floyd Rose trem and nut and the other parts, if they faked all that they should be building cars, make mine a Lamborghini. Anyway, too much speculation detracts from whether you like the sound and feel of the guitar, isn't that what really counts. Mine is a G series so maybe I shouldn't be in this thread but I am interested in reading what others think about them.

I have an A series MIJ from 85 and it doesn't have the Made in Japan
stamped on the heal, right before the neck pocket.
it does have the serial number on the neck plate, and make stamped on the necks heal.
i do believed they made a few changes over the years on how and where they made stamps, and put serial numbers. also they used 3 different factory's to make these.
FujiGen being the 1st they were known for making Ibanez.
then Tokai and Dyna Gakki followed.

here is a link of the Fender Japan history, with link to all serials numbers.

Haven't been on in a while. Some good info there on the MIJ series!!

Had my baby over a year now, and she hasn't missed a beat. I haven't a single negative word to say about it!! I mentioned a while back that I was gonna swap out the PG for a black one.....so here it is, just for any of you who may care
