Ok ...Fender is at it again, although I find a Fender Beetle intriguing, a micro bus version would be shagaliciously devilish .....

Ah. Well, fair enough - but I admit from the thread title I was expecting something more along these lines (only a bit different, obviously) :

Now if only they'd go up a step in the VAG family to an Audi RS4 Avant ... :)

That reminds me of the "Monkee-mobile" (which was also GTO-based IIRC).

Interesting, but it sure doesn't make me want to run out and buy a new VW.

In fact, there isn't anything that would make me want to run out and buy a new VW. :P :P

cheers!

WTF? You would rather they hooked up with Porsche? Uhm...they did! Porsche is OWNED by VW (50.1%) last time I checked so you do want a VW!

Sorry Lightning, I just couldn't resist...

Ease up on the lad, Sarge.

You know retired rust-pickers......they don't get around much.

Actually VW owns Porsche 100% as of about six months ago or so.
It's a curiosity of sorts IMO since Dr. F. Porsche designed and built the first Beetle prototypes in 1936 and now his creation owns his name-sake company.

No worries here !!

Porsche is now wholly owned by VW that's true.... But, Porsche AG and Porsche SE (a holding Co. due to German legal requirements) actually hold 50.7% of all VW stock and Dr. Wolfgang Porsche is Chairman of the Board of each of these... so who owns who..??

Porsche has strayed away from their core concept in 1998 with the intro of the water-cooled 996, then the SUV and 4-door Sedan. I owned a 996, traded it for a 986 (Boxster) and ditched that as soon as a pristine pre-98 car was found - 1990 964 one-owner w/ 20k mi. on it. That is a real air-cooled Porsche - a Bucket List car.

I have researched the VW line extensively and it too is a shadow of it's former self.

Neither brand could have built their fabled reputations on the cars they're building today.

cheers!
