I have recenlty purchased two Squier Strats (one for me, one for my son) and have been very impressed by them.

My question is, what is the difference between a Squier Strat and a normal Fender Strat? Remember, I am a beginner and am trying to learn. To me they look very similiar. I assume that the Fender models have the better pickups, etc., but I am interested to know what else might be better on the Fender models.

Thanks for the insight in advance.

Fenders are made BY Fender in their own factories and using Fender parts in either the USA or Mexico, if you're in the US. Squiers are made FOR Fender to Fender specs and designs, but the parts while modelled after Fender parts, they are not actual Fender parts (this is why you usually cannot swap Fender and Squier parts without some minor modding or altering to the part or guitar), and are usually contracted out to companies in China, Korea, Indonesia, and India. So thats some of the main difference, and as you mentioned, the electronics in Fenders are supposed to be better, but I have been playing for nearly 20 years, and from my experiences a properly set up Squier Standard Series (or higher) is just as good, if not better, than any Fender Standard Series (the Fenders mad in Mexico) I have ever played .

Thanks for the excellent response bowl.

I figured it was something like this.

Nonetheless, I am very happy with the two Squiers I have recently purchased.

While I love my ten year old Les Paul, I have to be honest in saying that I feel that my new Squier is easier to play for some reason. Maybe because it is much lighter....

Thanks again...
