I wish Fender would come out with a Pretenders Telecaster like the one Chrissie Hynde uses. She is known for using Telecasters. Everyone else and his brother comes out with a signature guitar, why not her! :?:

I have just finished watching the stunning performance of the animated efforts of 'The Pretenders - Live in London' DVD. I do have to agree with the previous author, noting the oversight of the Fender Custom Shop in the lack of a tribute Chrissie Hynde, Telecaster.

Dear 'Fender Custom Shop', please take note and issue a select version of Chrissie's classic Telecaster. It would take pride of place in my collection.

Like vintage wine, 'The Pretenders' music is better than ever and Chrissie Hyde's gleaming silver Telecaster is the epicentre of their unique sound.

Regards,

As far as I know, tribute instruments are initiated by the artist... possibly after a broad hint from somewhere, but it has to be something fun for all concerned.

There would have to be a few artists for whom the Custom Shop is just waiting on the word. I wonder what happens in the case of those no longer with us, though... a proposal by the CS to their estate, perhaps? I guess it's case by case. I'd still like to see a Steve Marriott tribute Tele... that was such a signature instrument for him, and seems to me as if it would have popular appeal.

Love Chrissie....love The Pretenders, but how many guys would buy a sig model with a girl's name attached...meaning how well would it sell...? I'd go for a Mary Kaye strat...but that model has a 50 year history....

hmm... I don't know. I wonder if there are any men playing a Bonnie Raitt signature Strat? I'd definitely play a replica of her #1 '66 Strat, though...

Which telecaster would be closest to what Chrissie Hynde plays? I'd like to buy one that is most similar.

I think it's probably because she's considered more of a singer than a guitar player.

Difficult to find one .

The Susanna Hoffs sig Rickenbacker goes for big bucks on ebay. One was up to 4 grand and did not meet the reserve.

I would love to have a SH sig ric but it's cost prohibitive.

I wish I had bought it when it came out.

The Courtney Love venus vista goes for good money too and they rarely go unsold on ebay.

grosser, thanks for the heads up of 'The Pretenders - Live in London' DVD. I picked it up on my last trip to NM and it is AWESOME! It has really stoked my fire for a Tele! Dang, I expect my wife's gonna get pissed when I try to explain why I need another guitar.

I think I found one on the TDPRI blog. It looks like Fender Japan makes it.

I would go for the Susanna Hoffs mainly because she was a real babe!
