Seriously considering grabbing the Super-Sonic 100 watt head. The problem is, there's just no room in my life for a 4x12 cabinet! Any problems/drawbacks associated with running the SS100 into the SS 60 2x12 enclosure? Will the speakers handle it?

The 4x12 cab is rated at 240 watts, the 2x12 cab at 120 watts. Given the rule of thumb to use speakers/cab rated at least twice the rated output of the amp, I would be reluctant to use a cab rated at 120 watts with an amp rated at 100 watts unless you never crank it up.

Why do you need a 100 watt head? And if you really do, you should use a cab that will get the best out of it.

Mmmh, I don't quite understand - the twin combo has 2 celestion vintage 30 speakers as well. So what is the difference between the speakers of the SS twin combo and running ghe SS100 through a SS 212 cab? I am doing the latter and haven't noticed problems - can somebody please enlighten me?

I think I explained things quite well. Do as you wish.

I don't think you would have a problem at 1-1/2 times the wattage. Therefore you would need at least 150W. I think Avatar advises this formula. Just pulled up Avatars FAQ. According to Avatar if using 2 speakers you should not exceed twice the wattage of the lowest rated speaker of an unequal pair (ex. 50W and a 100W)!

If one speaker is half the rating for the head or amp then it could be compromised. So the 50W should be increased to 65 or 75W (my suggestion) as it would be in the danger zone.

While both the above formulas are correct Fender complicates things by having the exact same 2 Celestion G-12 Vintage 30 speakers in both the 2x12 cab AND the 100 watt combo version Supersonic Twin. I think what was being asked was if the 2x12 setup is ok for the 100 watt Twin Combo, why not for the 100 watt head version? I have both cabs and while I've tried the SS 100 head with the 2x12 cab I sure as heck didn't push it too hard!

Yes, exactly - that is my question and I still dpn't get it ... So why is the 212 V30 configuration ok in the combo but not as a head/cab?

In the SS100 Twin Combo Fender ships them with the ohms selector on 8ohms while the speakers are actualy wired in series for a total of 16ohms.

Re-check your wiring! Not likely series from factory.

The Supersonic 100 combo is a rare exception.

Yes, series from factory, also confirmed by other owners who have checked like me. I however have reconfigured mine to run in 4ohms parallel on 4ohms selector.

So then ... Wouldn't the OP then have the option of reconfiguring the 212 cab to run in series? For 16 Ohms?
