I wanted to see if there was any interest in the Custom Shop reissuing a 1969 Jazz Bass. It's a landmark year with the new larger transition Fender logo. And PLEASE make sure to include the "Offset Contour Body" decal on the ball of the headstock.

Strangely it was never included on the '70 LTD Closet Classic:

It's also missing on this CS Jazz Bass Relic from the U.K.:
http://www.mansons.co.uk/shopping/brand ... age-1.html

The decal was however on the '70s FSR Jazz Bass:

A real '69 Jazz Bass:

+1

Also a '69 model would have the extra strap button on the reverse side of the headstock and possibly the paddle tuners as well......

This decal is also missing from the Geddy Lee JB:

And nowhere to be found on the CS '70s Heavy Relic:

Please....... hell they didn't even put the hoot/ nanny strap button on the back of the 64 Relics and NOS's..so it doesn't supprise that Offset Contour body decal isn't on the Relic 70's bass.
I don't know maybe it's me...but the Fender CS Shop seems to have a problem with details like "Period of Correctness when it gets to these Vintage type Instruments

Which is why I prefer to build my own guitars and basses.

Fellas I believe he is under the assumption WE are the custom shop and are asking us to do a re-issue model,am I wrong or...?
See where he insists that we use the "off set body contour decal ? thats what makes me think he THINKS us to be the C/S dept.
Never a dull moment

Well I'm my "custom shop". Can't speak for anyone else though.

That is also how I interpreted his post, lawsuitbass. So what do you think? Should we make it?

I didn't interpret it that way, he said he was looking to see if there was interest in such a reissue.
But while we're on the topic, what was the point in the strap button on the back of the headstock?

To hook a strap up to you silly!! :P

Back in the day players would use that strap button to keep the bass more in a vertical position like a upright bass. Remember you had allot of upright players converting to electric at the time and they were more use to playing in the vertical position.

I used the extra strap button to hang fuzzy dice on sometimes.

I don't know what Fender's idea was, but I've seen at least one guy who not only had the standard strap arrangement (top horn and behind the bridge), but had an additional strap coming from the top of the strap where it lay across the shoulder and attached to the button on the back of the headstock. Perhaps to eliminate neck-dive?
